Wylam to Thornley Woods

Begin by visiting Hagg Bank Bridge, an early example of a single span arch bridge.  The route now rises out of the Tyne Valley to Kyo from where, on days of good visibility, views of the Cheviot Hills can be seen.  The route continues through woods and farmland, eventually joining the Red Kite Trail with distant views of the memorial column at Gibside.

How Do I Get There?

To the start:  
Train from Central Station

Bus X84 from Eldon Square bus station, Newcastle.
 

Return:          
Bus 45, 45E, 46, 47 from Thornley Woodland Centre.

Fox and Hounds (0191 413 2549) at Coalburns 400m off the route.  New owners are very keen to welcome walkers. Ring ahead to be sure of pub being open or knock on the door if closed. Coffee shop at Thornley Woodland Centre.
